Winning project for new annex to the terminal building named
The project winner and general contractor for the new building annex to the east façade of the terminal have been named. They are the DRLW Architectes | Vischer Architekten | Egis Bâtiment Nord Est | Gruner AG | LAP'S consortium, which will be responsible for designing and overseeing the project. This consortium represents a cross-border Franco-Swiss team that is strongly rooted in the region. The project includes an annex to the existing terminal building and renovation of EuroAirport’s terminal infrastructure for handover in 2030/31.
One of the Airport’s key concerns is to improve service quality for passengers. Part of this includes the realisation of the EMT project (Evolution Modulaire du Terminal), consisting of the construction of a building annex and renovation of EuroAirport’s terminal infrastructure. The project is divided into independent modules that allow the terminal infrastructure to be adapted gradually and flexibly.
The first module (which focuses on the landside) comprises the construction of an annex to the existing building of around 14 000 m² on the east façade of the terminal, the renovation of 15 000 m² in the existing terminal as well as landside adaptations to reorganise terminal access. The project will centralise all passenger security checkpoints in the new section of the terminal building and optimise passenger routing. In addition to improving service quality, this will also lead to savings in day-to-day security costs. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, and the new building is due to be handed over in 2030/31.
In the meantime, the Airport is carrying out an action plan to improve service quality by means of targeted measures by 2026. Some measures such as the renovation of the Arrival Zone have been completed. Others, such as the reorganisation of the catering areas, are in progress, while others, such as the redesign of the catering facilities, renovation of sanitary facilities, signage, and improvements to Boarding Areas, are in the planning stage.
