Preparative work for 2026 runway refurbishment about to be launched
In preparation of the Airport’s runway refurbishment scheduled for spring 2026, Basel Mulhouse-Airport will set up a construction site base. Preparative work will be carried out starting September 23 and continued throughout a total period of six months, with an effective execution (actual construction duration) period lasting around four months. Work will be carried out during daytime, Monday through Friday, and will have no impact on flight operations.
This preparatory work essentially includes:
- Grading work;
- site development and road construction;
- the installation of an intersection with traffic lights in the area of road “CD 12bis” to safely control traffic flows from the start of the preparatory phase of the runway work, which is scheduled for the second quarter of 2025, until the end of construction work in mid-2026.
The construction site base will be established on agricultural land, which will be returned in its original state by 2027 at the latest.
After decades of flight operations, EuroAirport’s main runway is in need of refurbishment. Refurbishment work is scheduled for spring 2026. For safety reasons, it will be necessary to close the runway completely for a period of around one month (see media release published in November 2023).
Further information will follow in the course of the project.
