IFR Landings
Instrument landing systems
For maximum safety, most airports use landing navigation aids known as ILS (instrument landing systems). These systems guide the aircraft extremely accurately to the runway, even in poor visibility conditions. The main runway of EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg is equipped with an ILS for landings from the north (ILS 15) and the south (ILS 33).
In line with international recommendations, aircraft generally depart and land into the wind. The preferred runway is the one used in calm wind conditions and, in certain cases such as at EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg, even in weak tailwinds for environmental reasons. The preferred runway at EuroAirport is runway 15.
